Top 7 new TV shows premiering this week on Netflix, Max, Prime Video and more (Oct. 21-27)
New TV shows enter the surprise season this week on Netflix, Prime Video and other streaming services, as well as television and cable channels.
This week’s new TV series features a series premiere. “Like a Dragon: Yakuza” brings the popular “Yakuza” video games to life on the small screen this week. The first series drops on Prime Video in the US and EU on Thursday and elsewhere on Friday. You won’t want to miss it.
We also get final season reruns of popular shows this week. On Hulu, the three-part series premiere of “What We Do in the Shadows” arrives today, marking the beginning of the end for the vampire comedy series. Then a few days later, the final premiere of “Star Trek: Lower Decks” arrives on Paramount Plus.
But that’s not all that’s coming to TV in the next seven days. Here’s our guide to the new TV shows you can watch this week.
Season 1 of “Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black” (Netflix)
Watch First
“Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black” stars Taylor Polidore Williams as Kimmie, who struggles to make ends meet as an exotic dancer in the Magic City after her mother kicks her out. It also stars Crystal Stewart as Mallory who runs a successful hair care family in Atlanta. When these two women from very different paths suddenly collide, drama ensues.
It starts on Thursday 24th Oct Netflix
‘Like a Dragon: Yakuza’ series premiere (Prime Video)
Watch First
Based on the popular “Yakuza” video game, “Like a Dragon: Yakuza” is set in the fictional entertainment district of Kamurocho. Part “Tokyo Vice,” part “Pachinko” and part “Grand Theft Auto,” this show takes place in two different time periods. The first takes place in 1995, and four friends want to escape their lives in an orphanage to enter the world of Kamurocho, which is controlled by the yakuza. Ten years later in 2005, their friendship deteriorated to the point of violence.
Starts Thursday, Oct. 24 (US and EU) and Friday, Oct. 25 (in the world) by Great video
The season finale of ‘Somebody’s Here’ (HBO/Max)
“Somebody Somewhere” might be one of the best shows you probably haven’t watched. The show follows Sam (Bridget Everett), who lives in Manhattan, Kansas and is haunted by the death of her sister. This becomes a mid-life crisis but Sam is suddenly saved by joining the community of outsiders. The show has a perfect 100% “freshness” on Rotten Tomatoes over two seasons, so don’t miss the third and final episode this Sunday on HBO and Max.
Starts Sunday, Oct. 27 at 10:30 pm ET on HBO and Max
‘Agatha All Along’ episode 7 (Disney Plus)
I’ll freely admit, I wasn’t sure who “Agatha All Along” was when it aired. Yes, Kathryn Hahn was great as the witch Agatha Harkness in “WandaVision.” But was it necessary to check the person further?
However, after watching the first few episodes, I will freely admit that this show has been good. So make sure you watch episode 7 on Disney Plus this Wednesday. If you haven’t watched yet, don’t worry, you have plenty of time to go down the Witches Trail and find out why this is a must watch.
Episode 7 premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 9pm ET on Disney Plus
‘What We Do in the Shadows’ final season finale (FX/Hulu)
Watch First
“What We Do With Shadows” is considered one of the best comedies of this decade. Based on Taika Waititi’s 2014 film of the same name, the show follows four vampires – Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Colin (Mark Proksch) – as they try to exist in today’s world. Season 6 is the final season of the show and the first episode of the season introduces Jerry, who is the fifth companion of the vampires.
Starts Monday, Oct. 21. at 10pm ET on FX (watch at Sling). Watch new shows the next day Hulu
The final season of ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ begins
Watch First
It may shock you, but this animated show may be your favorite Star Trek fan show or movie. This comedy series follows the crew of the USS Cerritos – one of those at least important stars in Starfleet. In particular, it follows the lower officers of this humble ship.
If you haven’t watched the show yet, season 4 is free on Pluto TV so you can check it out. Otherwise, tune in to episode 5 this week as the Cerritos crew embarks on their final journey together on the small screen.
Starts Thursday 24th Oct Paramount Plus
‘Lioness’ season 2 premiere
Watch First
This is another show you can watch on Pluto TV for free if you’re new to it. “Lioness,” also known as “Special Ops: Lioness,” stars Zoe Saldaña as Joe, a CIA officer in a military program called “Lioness.” He is overseen from Langley by Kaitlyn (Nicole Kidman) and Byron (Michael Kelly) and runs an operation as part of the US war against terrorism. In Season 2, they will need to recruit new operatives to combat a threat that may be closer to home, while dealing with the pressures that this covert operation faces.
It starts on Sunday, Oct. 27 Paramount Plus
